Harpur's Ferry conducted an Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Drill with this semester's Advanced First Aid and Emergency Care (AFAEC) class on Friday. The scenario was a 2 car motor vehicle collision
with patients suffering a variety of injuries: one patient had a broken pelvis, another a femur fracture, internal bleeding, and another was an emotionally disturbed patient under the influence of acid. The drill, designed and supervised by the Training Coordinator and AFAEC instructors, was conducted in the lot above Clearview Hall. Other agency members played the role of the patients and drivers so that the AFAECers could the full pre-hospital MCI experience: responding to the scene, triaging patients, providing on-scene care, and transporting patients to a mock hospital.
The drill offered the new agency members an opportunity to run a situation from start to finish with minimal prompting from instructors or more experienced providers. Instructors and mock patients reviewed the performance with the AFAEC class at the end of the drill and offered feedback on all aspects. See pictures of the drill here!
